Hansa Luftbild had been contracted by the American companies SpecTIR and NEOS GeoSolutions, to acquire hyperspectral airborne data of the north of Lebanon, inclusive the northern coastal strip. The data will be used for oil and gas exploration.
Data acquisition, using a scanner of the type ProSpecTIRTM VS, commenced on 03 October and was completed by 24 October, 2014. The image resolution was 5m and flying was carried out at altitudes ranging from 13,000 to 17,500 feet, over an area of approximately 4,000 square kilometres.
The project, which is of economic significance to Lebanon, attracted a great deal of media attention, with local English and Arabic language newspapers reporting on it. Some Lebanese TV stations covered the flight mission during main evening news bulletins. In addition, Petroserv, a Lebanese oil and gas services company, and also a business partner of NEOS GeoSolutions, produced a promotional video about the mission.The video shows one complete mission day commencing with the crew checking weather reports and ending with their landing at the airport.
