General Contracting

As a general contractor the Hansa Luftbild Group has been conducting international projects for several decades. In particular, the border survey projects, hence the survey and monumentalization of the border between two countries may be mentioned.

To state an example we would like to tell you about our participation in the survey and monumentalization of the border between the Kingdom of Saudi-Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman in the 90s:

Processing of the order — from undersigning the contract to the final handover — afforded six years of work and employed more than 200 people at home and abroad. The overall length of the border amounts to 657 kilometers which are now mapped and marked by 341 cemented monuments.

An expert commission composed of four delegates from each of the countries involved prepared the technical specifications and examined the individual partial assignments within the project on regular meetings with the expert team in Münster. The work steps included surveying the difficult landscape under extreme climate conditions, organization of the migrating desert camp for approximately 200 people employed, surveying and mapping with the aid of image-taking flights, photogrammetry and cartography. In addition, the border monuments had to be erected in regular intervals. In order to secure the foundations for this purpose, steel pipes had to be anchored 30m deep into the ground, among other reasons, because of the sandy subsoil. A pyramid stump with a rectangular cross-section rests on each of these foundations. One side points out the territory of Saudi-Arabia, the other to the territory of Oman. A brass plate bearing inscriptions and the emblem of the respective state is mounted on each of the two flanks. Each monument is surrounded by railings and can be recognized from afar on account of an upward extended corner post. In total, 341 monuments were erected along the entire border.
